SCOTT KURT
Oct 22 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
SCOTT KURT

Scott Kurt grew up in America’s Rust Belt, and the grittiness of his roots is evident in every aspect of his music. From his debut album, “Ragged But Right”, recorded with his band Memphis 59, to his first solo effort “Down This Road”, he captures the essence of hard living, hard work and hard times in deeply personal lyrics delivered by a whiskey-tinged bar room voice wrapped up inside a whole lot of full-tilt country-rock guitar.

LOW LOW CHARIOT
Oct 22 @ 4:30 pm – 7:00 pm
LOW LOW CHARIOT

When fate, family and music become one, you find the Low Low Chariot.

Singer-songwriter JD Sutphin toured for years with his rock outfit, Madrone, gaining thousands of fans and even radio support. But even with their success, his maternal grandmother told him repeatedly “Country music is gonna find you.” And one fateful Christmas it did, in a decades old stack of songs unearthed by his family, written by his own grandfather who died on July 4th, 1974, before he could record them.

JD’s grandfather, Jim Freeman, an incredibly accomplished musician in his own right, toured with bluegrass greats Ralph Stanley and Bill Monroe.

JD learned these once forgotten songs. He discovered a storytelling style of music that engulfed him to the point of making a pilgrimage to Nashville.

He stood in front of the Ryman with tears and saw a path he needed to take. JD began to write his own songs on his grandfather’s prized Martin guitar. Within the first week he had ten songs unlike anything he had ever written. It was honest. It was simple. It was country.

This new band “The Low Low Chariot” alongside lifelong friends Blaine Davis and Joshua Mason named Low Low Chariot, after his grandfather’s single “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot”.

CHRIS CASSADAY
Oct 23 @ 11:00 am – 2:00 pm
CHRIS CASSADAY
Growing up, music was always a prominent part of Chris Cassaday’s life. Whether it be singing in the back seat of his mom’s car, or watching his dad play the drums, Chris was hooked on music at an early age. And after receiving his first guitar at age 14, Chris honed his songwriting skills over the next few years, playing in various bands and as a solo act throughout high school and college.
After graduating from JMU in 2014, Chris independently released his first professionally recorded solo album The Savannah Sessions on May 25th, 2015. Chris got to work with producer/engineer Ted Bowne Of Passafire, one of Chris’s greatest influences and favorite musicians. Chris’s original song My Oh My off of the album was sought out by Sirius XM radio and is now being played regularly on Sirius XM’s the Coffee House (Ch. 14). Chris also performed a live session for Sirius XM in September 2015 that was featured on the air. After two years of extensive live performances around the country, Chris released his next studio effort Stranger Places on April 10th, 2017.
Chris has performed live for countless audiences both solo and with his band “The Cassaday Concoction” all over the country and even abroad and has proven quickly that he is a must-see live act. Chris’s unique blend of blues, rock, folk and funk, and his thunderous, distinctive voice have started to gather him a significant following. The sky is the limit for this Washington, DC based singer-songwriter.

DREW DUNBAR
Oct 28 @ 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm
DREW DUNBAR

In 2019, Drew decided to conduct a little experiment for himself. He was playing music several nights a week in restaurants and breweries all around Richmond, VA just trying to pay the bills and was growing weary of playing the same old cover songs the same old ways to get a few nods from the bar every once in a while if he played the “right tune.” So he wrote a song with the may-I-please-have-your-attention opening line…

“I’m usually a pretty good guy, but I usually don’t get treated this bad…”

And heads started turning. Drew had discovered something powerful that somehow in over a decade of performing other peoples’ music he had never considered: he could write his own music. So after beginning to throw the fun pop song, USUALLY in the mix, he started writing other songs. Some boasted the same tongue-in-cheek-what-did-he-just-say flair and some hit on much more intimate themes that would become the MIGHT AS WELL EP. The southern rock fueled title track of that EP speaks of growing up in West Virginia and then taking another look at the state after having been gone for several years lamenting…

…it’s just like I remember but I don’t see how I used to see…”

This collection of songs that draw you in with compelling lyrics and carefully crafted melodies features UNAMERICAN JESUS which tackles the complicated relationship between violence and religion in America…

“Preacher, can I get a gun? Well, who do you wanna shoot?”

And the aggressive THE ONE YOU SHOULD FEAR which dares (and warns) the oppressors of the world to underestimate the marginalized…

“I don’t know what you think you see when you turn your head and stare at me but you couldn’t be right…”

Drew is only beginning this journey of song-creation and we’re sure the best is yet to come.
